History Of Our College

This infact alma mater took birth on Sept. 1983 on the auspicious birth day of Dr. Sarbapali Radhakrishan, celebrated nationwide as “Guru Divas”. The founders of the institution had the dreams and aspirations to empower the under privileged girls of this region through higher education and the same took a concrete shape when a committee comparisng the generious and eminent personalities of this location decided to set up this institution.

Mahant’s Banishdhar Das Goswami of a nearly monastery volunterily denoted 6.96 acres of lands to establish this first women college of mahanga block. The poor peasant, and wage earners of the Bhaunria revenue village and other nearby villages of the locality rendered their physical labour and co– operation for the inception of their institution and there after helping hand of different sections of people poured into the palm of the founding members to march ahead. Our institution is located at the side of salipur – kuanpal road with a distance of 40 k.ms from district head quarter, Cuttack.

At the initial state the state govt. had accorded concurrence for opening of +2 Arts course with 128 seats and CHSE, Odisha granted affiliation for the same course, in 1984. Keeping the demand of the local students in view, the college increased its strength from 128 to 192 in Arts stream. Later on, in the academic year 1994-95 , the college was able to obtain Govt. permission for opening of +2 Science & +3 Arts with 64 seats in each stream. Further the college obtained permission to open Honours subjects in English, Odia, History, Education, Pol. Sc. , Home Sc., and Sanskrit . Subsequently, keeping in view the demand of the students the college increased its seats from 64 to 96 at the Degree level from the session 2014-15. The college obtained permanent affiliation from Utkal University in the year 2010 and also got permanent recognition from the Director of Higher Education, Odisha.

Being a women’s college our institution came under the preview of the first women university of Odisha from the academic session 2015-16. As per the affiliating university the new CBCS syllabus has been implemented from the session 2016-17.

Now the college has become a full fledged degree college of this locality with a student strength of 750. The efforts of the college management is still under way of development of the college both in academic extension and infrastructural up-liftment . The college came to the fold of direct payment, in the year 1999. The University Grant Commission, New Delhi has been pleased to include the college in the list of 2(f) and 12 (B) of UGC act in the year 2012.

The present pioneering stature and image of mahanga women’s college , Pallisahi Cuttack with 23 nos of teaching and 10 nos of Non teaching staff member has fulfilled the aspirations of local people, who were committed for the cause of higher education of girls students. The college has been standing up with its glorious traditions in the field of conduct of examination, Class room teaching , official administration and student discipline. It hopes to be one of the leading and ideal , women institution on the soil of Mahanga with optimum utilization , of its manpower and infrastructure facilities.
